Guanacos Valley Route

Guanacos Valley Route

Pros

  • The approach is gradual and begins at a low altitude.
  • P. Guanacos –its base camp- is below 4,000 m., which helps acclimatization through a gradual ascent.
  • Not a frequently traveled route and it stays rather wild.
  • The usual descent route is Pioneers’, thus making a complete traverse of the mountain.

Cons

  • There is no rescue squad in the ascent route
  • There are no high-altitude porters in the place.
  • The ascent permit is more expensive than those of the other routes.
  • Stay in high-altitude camps is usually long.
  • The last approaching day involves fording Vacas river.
