Pros
- The approach is gradual and begins at a low altitude.
- P. Guanacos –its base camp- is below 4,000 m., which helps acclimatization through a gradual ascent.
- Not a frequently traveled route and it stays rather wild.
- The usual descent route is Pioneers’, thus making a complete traverse of the mountain.
Cons
- There is no rescue squad in the ascent route
- There are no high-altitude porters in the place.
- The ascent permit is more expensive than those of the other routes.
- Stay in high-altitude camps is usually long.
- The last approaching day involves fording Vacas river.
